Introducing...
DeBruce Career Corps
Youth Voice - Agile Careers
Hello!
It is my pleasure to introduce a unique leadership opportunity with the DeBruce Foundation.

The DeBruce Foundation was established by Kansas City business and civic leader Paul DeBruce. The Foundation’s mission is to expand pathways to economic growth and opportunity.

We work with a small group of individuals to help co-design a workforce development model that includes voices and perspectives of young adults (ages 14-24) to contribute to the work of the Foundation.

Why Participate?
Participants from Phase 1 say:

"Get involved…you can be the change; you can make a difference." ~ Jessica

"It’s nice to see there is a group of people who are focused on young people, their careers and their futures." ~ J

"The overwhelming support of the adults was tremendous. They listened and took in. That’s something I haven’t experienced before." ~ Cameron

"Sometimes there’s a wall that divides youth from adults. If we can take that wall down and work together, we can make a change that’s for the better." ~ Riley

"It was affirming and validating for young people to have an outlet to speak about these issues and provide input that could have genuine impact for the Foundation." ~ Francesca

"They’re working for young people. You want to work with people that want to help you. Why not take action and help them?" ~ Danielle
Your Role
During DeBruce Career Corps meetings your role will be to
help design a model for integrating youth voice into the work of the Foundation and provide feedback on specific projects.

Share your perspective on issues that people your age face in education and career planning. Your input is critical. Your voice along with those of your peers will provide input to shaping strategies, discussions and programs designed to improve workforce readiness.

In addition to providing valuable input, benefits of participating include learning about tools for career planning, gaining leadership experience and obtaining valuable professional skills.
Why Youth Voice?
In January 2017, the DeBruce Foundation began to focus on developing initiatives and technologies to improve workforce readiness in the greater Kansas City area.

A key project was the development of the Agile Work Profiler, an online survey tool that helps people identify their Agilities, the work-related activities that make up all jobs.

Once you know your Agilities, you can maximize your strengths and passions while you focus your career path on jobs and projects that value these skills.

After prototyping the tool, focus groups collected feedback from young adults.

The DeBruce leadership team was inspired by the
thoughtful insight and honest feedback they received and they revised the tool to better meet the needs of this audience - young adults ages 14-24.

More importantly, Executive Director Leigh Anne Taylor Knight had an “Aha!” moment. She realized that much of the work of the Foundation could be enhanced and energized by accessing real-time input from the people they are serving.

As a result, an initiative was launched in May 2018, to engage people in their teens and twenties to co-design a model that integrates authentic youth voice into the Foundation’s work.

Using this strategy, solutions, action plans and tools will be created to meet the needs of young adults planning for future careers.
